Nano-materials

Academic Program

This program includes a graduate level educational package on nanotechnology which supports practical training, laboratory infrastructure and industrial partnership.

Degree: Master of Science (M.Sc)

Field of study: Nanomaterials

Faculty: Science

Definition and Purpose

The course is designed to educate high-level undergraduates to conduct research and study over nanomaterials as well as collaborate on teaching at universities and higher education institutes. Graduates of this course would be able to work at industrial and research centers engaged with nanomaterials.

  • Program Scientific Committee including NTEG academic committee and scientific representatives of the host university will unanimously decide over scientific matters, such as compensating courses, taking into hold each and every student’s resume and background.
  • NTEG executive committee, with the assistance of the host university representatives, will manage all organizational and programming work for discipline-wise courses.
  • Sc. program is of a Block Course Module mode
  • The program with total 30 credits, takes 2 years, composed of 4 academic semesters (or 4 Blocks).
  • Each block (semester) contains a series of 3-credit, 2-credit and/or 1-credit courses. Block 4 is allocated for 6-credit thesis.
  • Each credit is equivalent to 15 hours of theoretical class. 3-credit, 2-credit and/or 1-credit course will be held in 3, 2 and/or 1 weeks, respectively.
  • Each program includes two 1-credit experimental labs (practical course).
  • The courses of each block would be run one after another according to the agreed schedule.
  • There would be one or two professor/s at a time for the program in the host university.
  • The final exam may be held at the end of each course, just before starting the next course. Otherwise, the exam for all 4 courses may be held in the university final exam calendar for that semester.
  • The registration of the thesis will be held in the fourth semester (block) while choosing the project topics, supervisors and research studies may be organized from the first semester.
  • Academic project for each student would be managed under the supervision of a supervisor (service-provider professor) and a co-supervisor from the host university.
  • There would be final defense session for each thesis, in the presence of a selected jury.
  • All defense sessions would be held at the end of the second year, within the pre-defined timetable.
  • Purposed time schedule will fit the official academic calendar of the host university.

The program entails:

  • Nine theoretical courses;
  • Two lab courses; and
  • A thesis for completion of M.Sc.

Students with bachelor degree other than materials science must participate in compensatory courses with total course credit of 9 (see Table 2).

Tables 3 and 4 show the title of compulsory and optional courses, respectively. The program scientific committee will select 5 courses from the list of optional courses.
